Maggie Houston is Jane Hampton Cook’s first book, inspired by her time working in the Texas Governor’s Office.

This book tells the story of Governor Sam Houston through the eyes of his 12 year old daughter, Maggie. The 15 months Maggie and her family lived in the Governor mansion were full of interesting stories and exciting events that led to Sam Houston’s most difficult decisions–whether or not to support the Confederacy. Maggie learned about a father’s love, a patriot’s duty and a man’s honor.
