Bill of Rights Day

As the Chicago Sun reported, Kate Smith, who was known for singing “God Bless America,” gave ten golden rules for democracy on her radio show, WBBM-CBS, for Bill of Rights Day on Dec. 15, 1941.
 

  1. Do your full part in defense of your country.
  2. Know the workings of democracy.
  3. Be thoughtful on the issues of the day.
  4. Protect your heritage–The Bill of Rights.
  5. Try to understand the ways and ideas of others.
  6. Help put the ideals of democracy into practice.
  7. Promote freedom everywhere.
  8. Beware of subversive propaganda.
  9. Be friendly.
  10. Be courageous.
